Prince George -    The price of gas took a tumble today when prices dropped back to 139.9 at the Esso at Fifth and the Bypass, while the price at the Petro Can at Fifth and Carney dropped to $1.40.9 cents a liter.

Prices have dropped all over Canada and this region has been one of the remaining hold outs.

According to the CCPA with the price of crude oil at $97.16 a barrel and the US dollar at $1.07 we should be paying $1.16 cents a liter in Prince George,  if we were to take the average mark up on gas like they do in the USA.

Of course Prince George is one of the hold outs along with Kamloops, Cache Creek, Quesnel, Williams Lake etc. They are taking advantage of Campbells carbon tax. The rest of Canada is on it's way down. Welcome to B.C.
lets go to the gas stations with letters of complaint stating the price of gas is way too high according to what it should be! Maybe...just maybe they will lower the price...*wakes up from dream*
The gas stations have nothing to do with setting the price.

Send it to their corporate HQ's, and your letters will then go right into the shredder.
and the price of crude was $92 and change a barrel this morning...not $97.
The local stations say they have nothing to do with the pricing, but they sure seem too all raise their prices at the same time, by the same amount, etc. Even if this was being called in from the head office, how is it that they all fallow the same amounts / times ?
Good point lunarguy, does head office have a webcam pointed at every retailer in PG so that they can change the price in a second? Or does the retailer phone up the head office and let them know they aren't making quite the profit they could be.
I know for a fact that p-Can sends somebody around 3 times a day to check prices at other stations. If this isn`t price fixing ...what is?Boycott P-Can!!!,
until we drop down to a national average
How about just putting Petro Canada gas stations out of business in this town? Might get some national press and maybe start a trend so the big oil companies get the message that us unwashed consumers have a little if some power?
$1.35.9 at Superstore this evening before 5 cent rebate. Trend setters?
Yes we definately should organize a Petro Can boycott. How to get it to the masses though?
simple, everybody QUIT buying fuel from Esso, P.Can, and Shell, period!! Buy from Canadian Tire, Superstore, and Fastgas, where you do get a DISCOUNT. Hello, is that so difficult???

If they have no sales, they will bring their prices down, and consequently, so will the others, to compete. We continue to TOTALY boy-cot the Esso, P.Can, and Shell stations, and they will drop their prices some more, and the others will bring their prices down to follow. When we get the gas prices down, to where they are reasonable for everybody, we could entertain the thought of giving a little bit of business back to the big three!!

Anybody got a better idea. This idea was sent around the internet. Nobody has done anything to make this idea happen!! I, for one, buy all my fuel at Canadian Tire!!

If the folks of this city don't want to participate in this style of protest, then put up with the BS gouging by the oil companies!! Stop whining!!
Ruez...boycotting service statiions in canada does nothing to the head office...the Gas companies don't own the service stations...they are all franchises...so it is only the station you boycott that hurts...
You would have more effect returning their credit cards.....nclude a stern note...might help
Without any franchises they will not be able to sell their over priced product. It is time for something to give and if the franchises's start getting some pressure maybe they will feed it back to head office.

It is just like saying politicians can't do anything about the prices, oh they can and I hope this federal election we get rid of the ones who say they can't.

BCRacer, it couldn't hurt them too much. We're always told about how little their cut of the loot is anyway.
Let's pretend for a moment that it's possible for such an organized boycott to happen (which it isn't). As many have noted, you're only hurting the local franchise owner.

And also as a couple people have noted, there are 'smarter' ways of buying gas, like getting 5 cents per litre at Superstore or Canadian Tire. Air Miles/Petro Points are a waste of time.
If you want the price to drop, quit buying gas. It would work but how many of us can do this?
Morning All!!

Excuse me MrPG but I have taken many free flights using airmiles so for you to say it is a waste of time is foolish. :} I am actually going this sunday to Vancouve and back in 5 days all complements of Airmiles. When I return to Vancouver for my surgery, that will be also paid for by Airmiles. *Evil Grin
I've used my airmile points many times and have taken actual honest to goodness vacations, as well as an urgent visit to see a sick parent. Defnitley not a waste of time.
If you do the math, you would find that you get a far greater 'bang for your buck' with the rebate at the pump. Figure out how much an earned airmile is actually worth vs. the 5 cent rebate. But whatever works for you.

Don't get me wrong, I have an airmiles card, but I don't earn them at the gas station.

Oh mercy!not one has mentioned GW Harper, our no chrisma PM say heehaw!!He will not do a thing as with the high prices his coffers are filling.
Do you not find it funny that with all the different gas stations in town the prices are the same,Collusion across the board. Most of these stations are locally owned!!
Why not do the boycott when most are available on Saturday or Sunday!
Hey!! Harper anounced yesturday that he believes that GOUGING is happening. Roflmaoooo But ...and that is a big butt! He will not disclose as of yet what the plan is. Do you think maybe he will dangle it in front of our displeased faces for votes???? Makes me sick to even listen to him. Calgon! Take me awayyyyyy! *Grin
Not to mention with Air Miles you're still stuck paying the Taxes, NavCan / Fuel Surcharges, Airport Improvement fees, etc. Airmiles is basically a flight discount - it's far from a 'free' flight.
MrPG! Instead of paying 400.00 return from Vancouver + additional charges...I paid 130.00 for taxes, fuel surcharges and airport improvement fees, etc. Would of had to pay all of that anyway and I like the 2nd total better. :}
Shell, you're missing my point. And $400 return? Obviously that wasn't a seat sale. I'm seeing lots of $89 one way flights with Westjet right now.

Anyway, if you do the math, you would find that you come out ahead with the 5 cent rebate. I personally don't care what anybody does, just trying to show that Air Miles are not the best deal. If you have to buy gas anyway, you might as well get the best deal you can.
No! You are missing the point!! You said airmiles were a waste of time....We are telling you that they are NOT!! Buying gas is not the only place who rewards airmiles!!
Sigh. Air Miles are a waste of time at gas stations and not the best deal. I am well aware that gas stations are not the only ones who give out Air Miles.

Satisfied?
Flights are in the $200 to $400 range one way pre add-ons until October 1 when the main runway is avaialable again. The $89 seats are pretty well gone to mid October. The one month runway shut down has cost passengers flying then more dollars plus 30 minute longer flights in more uncomfortable cabins. I think that should have been a cost to the airport rather than to the passengers unlucky enough to HAVE to fly during that time.
Thank you Gus!
I fill up my taxi at least once a day. When I first strated, I went the airmiles way for gas. I use up to $25,000.00 per year when I am double shifting my cab. In 5 years, I accunulated 2000 air miles. What a sweet deal, NOT!!!

Like MrPG said,do the math Shellshadow!!!
Thanks tax, that beautifully illustrates the point I was trying to get across.
