Prince George, B.C. – Premier Gordon Campbell says he will take a “sensible approach” to the issue of the carbon tax when he addresses the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention later this week.
Speaking on the Meisner program on 93.1 CFIS FM this morning, the Premier says there is general agreement there needs to be something done to deal with climate change, he says it means we all have to work together.
The UBCM is expected to pass a resolution asking for some breaks on the carbon tax. Prince George alone is facing an extra 100 thousand a year to cover the carbon tax.
“I think these are issues we have to deal with” said the Premier, “I found there is general agreement to deal with the challenge of climate change.”
He says we all have to address the issue of climate change. “This is about preparing our province to leave to the kids, and we have to leave it better than it is now.”
The Premier says he understand the “politics” of the issue, “It’s easy politics. Sometimes it’s important to do what’s right, not what’s politically popular.”

This is a tax on the general population that is contributing about 30% of carbon emissions from transportation and heating.
So instead of attacking the citizens, why not impose an action on the 70% contributors, heavy industry?
Also, if you look at this globally, Canada contributes less than 5% overall to the carbon in the world and china contributes about 30%. So I am to understand that Canadian citizens are to pay for China's excess contribution to the world's pollution?
