Prince George, B.C. - Carole James says if she were in charge of the Province, she would axe the carbon tax and would instead set targets for industry and offer incentives for reaching those targets.
The leader of the B.C. New Democrats was speaking on the Meisner program on 93.1 CFIS FM this morning.
She says the Premier’s announcement that municipalities would get their gas tax back in the form of a grant, was an admission the carbon tax was poorly thought out. “But what about the Universities, what about the hospitals, what about Joe public?”
James says she is putting her rural B.C. critics to visit rural communities to put together an infrastructure fund to help rural B.C.
“A government should be serving the people of British Columbia and should know that one size doesn’t fit all.”
When pressed about her party’s decision to designate 20 seats for women and visible minorities (15 for women, 5 for visible minorities) James said she understood the concerns, but it was a decision made at the New Democrat Convention and was done in a democratic way “The party wants to have a legislature that shows all the faces of the community.”

Designating 20 seats for women and visible minorities causes me a little concern. Who else do they want to reserve seats for? Can the New Democrat Party not represent all of the faces of the community without saving seats for specific groups?
