Draft of preferred  plan of Veteran's Plaza-Spirit Square

Prince George, B.C.- The plan for the Veteran’s Plaza – Spirit Square has been approved.

The design will see the existing cenotaph replaced , a ramp added for wheelchair access, improved lighting, benches, lower landscaping and a space for native art.
The new cenotaph will be two pillars, reminiscent of the Vimy Ridge memorial.

The final cost estimates for the project have yet to be determined, but the Province has committed up to half a million with the City expected to match that.

The final design package is to be completed by the end of next month. The estimates are the construction will be under one million dollars.  The cost will be added to the 2009 Capital plan and the City will borrow  it's share of the cost.

Only two trees will have to be removed, one  will be taken out because it isn't healthy, another will have to be removed from the front of City Hall toallow for other elements.

Once the Final Plan is completed it will be presented to Council with construction cost estimates for consideration for the 2009 Capital Budget.

Hope there is a place for White Art...Now we REMEMBER by race...Lots of native Names on Cenotaph,,,Why select one Race of people and give them more Honour then the rest of the veterans HOUNOUR MEN AND WOMEN EQUALLY..AND..NEVER BY SKIN COLOUR. Are the trees to give the Street People more shade in the summer? Hell lets put Park benchs there also.

Although I agree with the principal at heart Don, I personally think that we have excluded First Nations from any thought process that we must not significantly include them when building projects.

When I moved here from Vancouver 1/4 of a Century ago I believed everyone was equal. Today I know that although society likes to pull that "idea" out of the hat every once in a while, I now firmly believe it is dated thinking.
No one will ever be equal until our Govt's drop their racist policies in this country.

Govt sponsored racism is alive and well in Canada.
