Is there actually less people not working or is it that there is less people collecting EI
The later. This is one of the more useless stats out there when you look at how it is composed.
Or is it that people are leaving PG. Notice that the prvincial average has rizen

Our City economy is sound we are told.

Cheers
Prince George economy seems alot more diversified then the last forestry recesion, therefore, the unemploynment is staying relatively low. Another barometer is the amount of help wanted signs posted on the fast food restaurants (and ACS).
That's because they are moving out of town
There's lots of work around here.
You just have to l o o k for it and don't be to picky about the wages.
As long as EI pays more than those jobs they are going to be picky. I know many unemployed sawmill workers that make more money collecting EI than they would if they took one of those low paying jobs. I can't blame them. Many of them have paid into it their whole lives and never collected before. They are all waiting for their EI to run out before they take a minimum wage job. And you are also correct, lots of them are leaving town. Some can't though because they have spouses with good jobs here in PG. There are so many unemployed forestry workers in PG and many are getting too old to be hired. They've worked 30+ years in a sawmill and have no experience doing anything else so no one will hire them, especially if they have no education. A man who has worked his whole life in a mill and then finds himself out of work because his mill has closed down can't find another job. He has no other skills. It's hard for them & I really feel for these guys. And it's supposed to get worse. I don't know how it can.
Yes sir, lots of jobs available at Wendy's training wage of less than minimum wage.
If the country doesn't need the unemployed's continued 'production', then how can the country be disadvantaged by the unemployed's continued 'consumption'? Put it in 'real' terms, look at the physical reality. Finance is SUPPOSED to 'reflect' that physical reality. Why doesn't it? Pay them, we need their continued 'consumption'. Or there'll be a whole lot more of us not working.
