No Santa Claus Parade this year, but, Downtown Prince George is expected to sparkle this holiday season.

Instead of a parade, Downtown Prince George is trying to coordinate  holiday lighting and decorating events with a massive light up set to coincide with the Civic Square light up on the 23rd of November.

Snowflake lights have been purchased for Third Avenue, l-e-d lights have been purchased for Wilson Square.  Downtown  Prince George says it wants to  have  a downtown that is "so enchanting"  that it will be an award winner and draw more people into the downtown.

Initiatives Prince George wil have an animated display on its roof, there will be sleigh rides to tour the downtown in conjunction with the  Civic Square Light up, there will also be a competition to encourage downtown businesses to decorate their premises. The Downtown Prince George  effort is paid for by donations from sponsors.

Hot on the heels of that presentation, the Winter Lights Committee made a presentation asking City Council for a $3,000 dollar donation for the  Winter Lights competition. The judges for that competition arrive in town November 29th and there are costs involved in hosting that judging committee. Council  approved the request.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS not Winter Lights, WHAT A SHAME!!!!! Merry Christmas....Don
Downtown Lights, Winter Lights. What a crock. They are Christmas Lights. Nothing more, nothing less. All you politically correct persons out there should click on this site.

We can adorn our community with lights, but who is a light for the lost? We need more people willing to help others.

Instead of celebrating, we are decorating. Let's celebrate all of the good things our community does.

Snowflake lights that are so enchanting. (How quaint) How about doing something that will light up the faces of our needy?

Initiatives to create animated displays just don't compare to doing real things with real people. (like feeding them)

We don't need more competitions, we need co-operation to make our community a better place to live.

The Winter Lights Committee should (sorry) be lobbying private supporters for $3,000.

Can anyone think of a better use of $3,000 in this community?

Don't get me wrong. I would love lights everywhere, but, in the grand scheme of things, aren't people more important than decorations? Chester
