Veterans who have a Veteran's plate on their vehicle  can have free parking for the balance of the year.    That is the City's way of paying special  attention to the Year of the Veteran.

Shoppers in the downtown core can also enjoy free parking, but that will be just  for the month of December.

In announcing aproval for both  exemptions, Council has noted the "Free" reference is only for the time allowed on the meter.  There is no guarantee you won't get a ticket if you exceed the meter's time limit.

Wouldn't it be great if we provided our Veteran's with free parking for the rest of their lives. Just how much revenue are we generating from the handful that are still alive anyway?

In fact, I would like to suggest free parking for customers all of the time downtown. Let each business owner police their own employees and make sure they don't tie up their customers meters.

Now, that would be good for business and attract more people downtown. Ask someone who resents meters? Chester
