Prince George, B.C –  The way has been paved for the removal of parking meters from downtown and for the changes to some parking time limits.

Under a new bylaw, which has been given three readings by council, the meters will be removed, and the old system of issuing a warning ticket to violators will be pulled. Instead, violations will range from $15 to 25.00 dollars.

There are also some changes to the free parking limits on a couple of streets.  Three 5 hour parking zones located on 7th Avenue, George Street and Vancouver Street will be converted to limits of 2 hours.

The changes are for a two year trial period.

There was a meter on Victoria that was broken off - it was just replaced... Who is the genius that decides to spend the money to replace a meter just as they are about to be removed?
"..two year trial period." ?? Why is the jury still out on this one?
Parking tax, shopping tax, either way you slice it.
The same idiot who painted the lines on North Nechako last spring to only repave less than two weeks later. And then there is employees who leave the lights on in the ball park all night on North Nechako...love to have seen that hydro bill. *shaking head
If the meter maid babes are given a shovel to fill in our potholes instead of being laid off they may be forgiven for writing all those tickets bt some of us. I would like that.
Parking meters are right up there with coat hangers and garden hoses. Major annoyance.

Ever notice you never get a credit for the extra time you leave on the meter, but 2 minutes after the flag goes up, bam, got ya.

Or, you have a dime, a nickel, a toonie, a loonie, a 5 dollar bill but no quarter. Guess what? Screwed! Welcome to downtown. Thanks for the regular reminder why I am so frustrated with parking meters. Good riddance.

Leave it to the businesses to police the parking spots in front of their businesses. If the employees tie up the meters, they only hurt themselves by their customers not finding a convenient place to park. It won't take long for people to take an interest in suggesting where they should be parking.
Hmmm, business owners policing parking in front of their stores? Some do it too excess already! Like the guy from PG Plastics on Dominion. Always ready (with his road cone) to run outside and yell at a potential non-customer.
