Roads are slick at 4th and Winnipeg  ( submitted photo)
Prince George, B.C. – The first significant snowfall of the season seems to have caught most drivers off guard.
Two semis jack knifed on Peden Hill,   and there are numerous reports of slipping and sliding throughout the city. There are reports of an accident on Cowart road,  Peden Hill  has  been closed off and on all  afternoon.
Currently there is one lane open to alternating traffic. ( at right,  Peden Hill at 4:36 this afternoon)
Meantime,  a stalled semi is slowing  traffic northbound on the Hart Highway, traffic is down to one lane as of  4:30 this afternoon.
The City’s Streets division has half a dozen sanders and salters on the roads to look after the major routes which are the municipal responsibility. Streets Division Manager, Ed Shearer says his crew was prepared, but now they are hoping the rain that’s forecast for the balance of the afternoon won’t turn to ice.
Yellowhead Road and Bridge is also on the job, working on the provincial highways which include Peden Hill.
RCMP Sergeant Guy Tremblay says the roads are slick  enough that if people don’t need to drive, they should stay off the roads.

Ah yes, the first snowfall of the season, as usual there are the few that are not prepared. Running around with the all season tires with a death grip on the wheel and using nothing but tunnel vision, driving 30km p/h in a 100 zone. Then you wonder why drivers are in the ditch. If you're not ready and scared s#$@less, do everyone a favour and stay home!
"The first significant snowfall of the season seems to have caught most drivers off guard."

Why would it catch most drivers off guard?
We live in a winter driving part of the country. Should be no more difficult driving than in the warm months.

If you are one of those that were caught off guard then you shouldn't be allowed to drive in the winter.

It's not like we never get snow. Why weren't you prepared?

I've been driving in this country for 29 years and have never had a problem driving in the snow, whether it be the first snowfall or the last, using all season tires every year up until I decided to splurge on real snow tires last year.

All seasons work great but snow tires are better.

I hope it snowing at the North Pole too now. Climate change can't come fast enough fer me.
What I find intolerable is the morons that drive around in these 4x4 trucks. The ones that have the truck in 4 wheel drive at the first sign of snow. Then they proceed to continue driving as though the roads are bare and dry, because they can take off from that light like a rocket. However when it comes to stopping they have less ability than most other vehicles on the road due to their size and mass, and because they are driving beyond their ability. I watched a woman downtown yesterday nearly slide through a red light with her wheels locked up. Then a few lights later as I waited for a car to make a left hand turn in front of me, this same woman(over driving again)came sliding up behind me nearly smashing into the rear of my truck. When all was said and done and she had come to a stop, she was in the other lane. My advice is always drive with the idea that you may have to come to a stop in a hurry at any moment. We never know what is around the next corner, we can't fore see everything. So please when you go out there this morning drive as though there may be a loved one crossing the road, or be stalled in the middle of the road around the next corner, because there may be some one's loved one there.
"Tow Trucks and Police very busy": - that is the title of the article but no mention of tow trucks....and the police are mentioned at the end - but no mention of them being busy??
called selling a story
I'd rather someone drive 30km/hr than 100km/hr if they are unsure about road conditions. Give the people who choose to drive slow and cautiously a break. It takes a snowfall or two to get comfortable again with the driving conditions. It's those impatient people who think they can bulldoze through everything and everyone and have absolutley no consideration for anything else around them.
if you cant drive in the winter take the bus you bunch of degenerates
