Don't Leave the Car Running, the Exhaust Police may be hot on your Tail (pipe)
By Ben Meisner
In a pitch to City Council, Scott Bone of the City Administration has called upon Prince George residents to cut the amount of fuel they are using in the city by reducing the amount of time they leave vehicles idling.
The plan will go into effect on June 8th, Clean Air Day. It is hoped that green house gasses will be reduced.
City Hall staff will be required to cut the idling time in City vehicles and the citizens at large will also be asked to contribute to the proposal. Canfor, CNC, UNBC, BC Transit, and School District 57, and several other large groups are taking part in the plan.
Councilor Moose Scott enquired "What about all those remote car starters? Don’t you think people will want their cars running before they head off to work when its 20 to 40 below ?"
Scott Bone says one of the biggest culprits is people picking up their kids from school and they will be asked to turn their engines off while they wait for the children to come from school. Signs will be posted to encourage residents to comply.
