Prince George, B.C. -   The University of Northern British Columbia has brainstormed a new way to fundraise this year for bursaries and scholarships.

4000 copies were printed of a 16 month calendar from September 2008 to December 2009 representing various parts of the region.  The Calendar is on sale at the UNBC Bookstore, Books & Co, the Two Rivers Gallery, and the Tourism Information Centre for $20.00 each.

Rob Van Adrichem, Director Media Public Relations for UNBC, says the idea started as a brainstorming project for next year’s 15th Anniversary celebration and to look at new ways to support students, “It was not our intent to make a calendar, however we have a collection of pictures from business trips and candid moments that we use in our recruiting department to show students who are not from Prince George the various landscapes the region has to offer, and the idea of a calendar formed from that."  (Photo at right, Month of February Sunset from UNBC)

Once the project took off the content of the calendar started to change, “At first we thought of using pictures from campus, however we wanted this calendar to really showcase the region and find pictures that would be attractive to everyone.  We used recyclable paper and used a printer with metallic ink. We wanted this calendar to be more high end than the average puppy calendar”  says Van Adrichem.

If all 4000 copies of the calendar are sold, UNBC will be able to raise approximately $60,000 for bursaries and scholarships. Van Adrichem says it is the perfect time for this type of promotion, “The calendar was actually sold throughout the summer which has now covered the cost of creating the calendar, but this is the time when people buy calendars and so far we are getting a great response.”

The calendar can also be purchased in bulk for organizations who would like to purchase more than 50 copies. Receipts are available as part of the donation. For more information contact the Advancement Office at 250-960-5750.

The pictures remind me of paintings from the Impressionist era. Very Nice! I'll buy a copy for sure!
Very nice photos. Am wondering how the bottom picture could be a sunset from UNBC. I was not aware one has a view from UNBC towards the west overlooking a valley. In addition, fog like that sitting in a valley is typically not an evening occurence. Looks more like a sunrise to me with the city below the fog.
No babes? How I wish fer the old days. Woolly lambs and babbling brooks? Welcome me into the 21st century. We are progressive AND politically correct and inoffensive aren't we? Yay for us!
someone has their direction a bit off
I bought one as soon as they came out and omgness there are some stunning pictures in the calendar!!

Definately a bonus to see the beauty of our city displayed so wonderfully!!

I purchased a couple extra calenders for family and friends that live other parts of Canada and they all love them and comment on how lucky we are to live here!! and I totally agree!!
Kudos to Rob van Adrichem for the photography and Linda van der Zande for the design of this beautiful calendar.
