Prince George, B.C.- As of 9 this morning, 22 centimetres of snow have fallen in Prince George, and there is another 5-10 centimetres on the way.
The snowfall warning remains in effect.
Meantime, Ed Shearer, in charge of snow removal in the City , says crews will continue to be working through the weekend. “ We had 7 trucks running all night and now we have 7 trucks, 10 graders and 10 loaders on the job.”
The road conditions are not likely to improve today despite the best efforts of City crews. There is snow and freezing rain, or ice pellets expected later today.

YRB for example last night would turn their trucks around at the fire hall (witnessed at least three times), and yet only 1km away the Mud River hill had a foot of snow on it, and it is the major choke point of the whole highway, and yet they didn't have a spare plow to do the hill until 3AM? Meanwhile on the YRB Vanderhoof side you will see 5-6 plows at work keeping the roads clear throughout the night... and yet the YRB PG side has maybe one truck that doesn't even do past Beaverly until just before morning traffic.
I think YRB should lose their contract for failure to provide the service and I think when the provincial government takes over the service to ensure the service is rendered... they will almost assuredly need more plow trucks in the PG region if they are to be able to maintain the roads, because if one truck is all that is available for PG... then we are obviously very short of the equipment that is required to get the job done.
I think if YRB bid on the job they should be held to account when they are unable to fulfill their obligations. That accountability is not happening IMO because the whole purpose of privatization was so that the government could wash their hands of responsibility for the road maintenance and as such our government supports this kind of service, as long as they feel the majority of people will not hold them accountable for it.
We need to start holding our elected MLA's accountable, because it hurts our economy, and more people are likely to be killed as a result of the road conditions.
