Chimney plumes tell the tale in Prince George, it is cold. Expect more of the same for Christmas.

Prince George -     Forest workers say the current cold spell is not the coldest in memory. The Central Interior has been caught in an icy grip since December 13th when the temperature began to fall and has not altered significantly in the past week.

Forest workers say there have been longer and colder spells that have hit the region in years gone by.

Whether the cold spell will have an major affect on the Mountain Pine Beetle is expected to be known later today when Forest Minister Pat Bell has an opportunity to speak to his field workers in particular in the area north of the Pine Pass to see if the cold snap has had the desired effect of killing off the beetles.

The beetles build up a tolerance to the cold early on in the season when their bodies produce a substance like antifreeze and it is not known if that had taken place when the cold snap hit.

The cold weather that has gripped this region is expected to ease by December 30th through until the New Year at which time the temperatures are expected to dip once again.

December 21st was the shortest day of the year and was the official beginning of winter.

The days will begin to be longer in the coming week.

Long range weather predictions suggest the central interior will have below average temperatures over the remaining part of the winter, with a normal snowfall accumulation.

BBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I think Pat Bell ought to go to bat for us and get our carbon tax money back and work to scrap the silly idea.
If Pat says its killed the Pine Beetle, I guess that is gosple.

Its been quite a while since we have had a cold snap this long. Its cold, but not the cold we use to have when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Sure I could remember when it was -40F, for a week. No problems with Pine Beetle back then. I remember having to wait for a school bus. Hoping it would show up, because I knew the school would be warmer than the house.
All those who smell burning wood from the many wood fired furnaces that the PGAIR people say are in their neighbourhoods, please raise their hands. At the rate they say, at least one our of three of those residential plumes in the picture should have a bluish tint to them from the burning wood.
"Its Going to Be Colder Than Normal This Winter."

Healine should read. "We are getting our normal winters back"
I'll go along with that northman!
Feel's just like the good 'ol days out there!
