WHAT THE HELL....Why is it Closed for several Hrs..Take pictures, measurements ....Open highway

I have to agree. An accident between Mt. Robson and Jasper closed the highway for 8 hours during -20 temperatures just before New Years. No place to go. No food. All just because of an investigation. I say take pictures, interview witnesses and get the highway open again asap once the people involved have been taken care of.

I agree with Don and Chester. Clearly the people that are delayed by the accident are having a much worse day than THE PERSON THAT DIED!

I can say with a relatively high degree of certainty that the person that died really does not care how the accident happened.

The insurance companies do.

Some family members might want to know as well. Although it will not bring anyone back from the dead it might help with providing closure.

As for the rest ...... relax. Next time you travel the highways in inclement weather, prepare yourselves better for survival during emergencies.

Having been in an accident that killed my 2 month old son and the several years of court proceedings after it I am glad that the RCMP took the time to take the pictures, measure whatever they had to measure, process some clues at the time for what happened and then pursue further measurements. They even kept the accident scene as is, until a airplane could take several photos of the accident scene. ( Those pictures were particularly hard to look at, even two years later).

When all this hit court it was easy to prove that I was not at fault but rather the driver of the farm tractor involved.

It's normal proceedure to close the road for investigative purposes when fatalities are involved and that is a good thing. Those that question that practice can simply..............

I'm sorry to hear it as well. Lunar, you've put it all into perspective. Maybe next time you're delayed on a highway due to an accident you can think of the families whose lives will never be the same.

I'm siding with lunar, the job should be done properly, that is what I'd want if someone I cared about was involved.

Frankly I can't believe how selfish some of us are.

Well I used to be one of those people who couldn't tolerate the interruption of an accident scene or the RCMP having the road blocked for some reason but since the accident needless to say my life has changed. Now at accident scenes I get out, offer assistance as I remember the people who helped me at the scene. One fellow held my seat up so that my knee was not under pressure, while still pinned under the dash, for over an hour before rescue arrived and was able to get me out.

First off Don! Exactly how long do you think it takes to clear up a serious car accident? 15 minutes? 30 minutes? Should it be say like cleaning up spilled hay.. sweep it up,get it out. So guys like you can get to where ever your so deeply in a hurry to get to? What if that was your mother? Daughter? Should we be honking say after an hour telling them to hurry up and scrape your loved one off the highway so I can hurry home and watch the game?
You have alot of growing up to do .. I suggest you start you now :)

Secondly .. Chester have you ever heard of TURNING AROUND!! You sound like you didn't really want to be there in the first place! Wife force you to go??? Of course you had to and you decided to leave your compassion at home. Way go ingrate :)

And thirdly .. Born in BC you really are a retard arn't you? I know .. you cannot answer that question because your brain only functions for a short period of time and answering that would probably burst it :)

Well Mr. BC_Cactus, aren't you a wealth of encouragement for all.

I don't expect it would make any difference to you, but I wasn't involved in the line-up between Jasper and Mt. Robson. I only heard the details from someone who was and they relayed their experiences to me. Secondly, I would like to suggest to you that I have responded to more emergencies in my 18 year career with the Fire Service than most people would ever care to see in their lifetime. How sad that you use this venue to attack the opinions of others when you have no knowledge of the details of my experience.
