Cooler temperatures and rain, are helping firecrews battle the two major blazes in the Prince George region.  There has been no significant change in the Chinlak fire (at the confluence of the Stuart and Nechako Rivers) or the Tatuk Lake fire near Vanderhoof.

Although neither fire has been contained,  the fires  have not grown.  The rain storms did bring some lightening which sparked 7 new fires in the region, however those numbers are just a fraction of the type of action witnessed during the hot dry days of the past weekend during which 30 fires had been sparked by lightening.  The fire hazard rating has slipped to moderate, it had been high to extreme.

A fire camp has been set up in Vanderhoof.  There will also be a special study launched to find if there is any difference between a  fire in a beetle kill area or a normal section of forest
