McBride, B.C. - Highway 16 and two roads in the village of McBride will be getting some improvements in the near future.

Nearly $3.5 million dollars worth of resurfacing will be completed over the summer, according to PG Mount Robson MLA Shirley Bond.

"These Robson Valley roads are experiencing significant wear and tear, due to age and traffic.  I'm pleased these improvements will address those concerns and provide a safer, smoother ride and improved access for our residents, visitors and commercial traffic."

The project covers approximately 17 kilometres of road, including Highway 16 from Bell Mountain Road to Laing Road, and two McBride area side roads: Lamming Pit Road and Dyke Road.

Dawson Construction of Kamloops, won the contract with a bid of $3,483,803. Work is scheduled to begin June 1, 2009 and should be complete by July 18, 2009.

Drivers can expect some delays during resurfacing.

It is to bad that company from the north did not get the bid. We could of used the jobs.
It is good that we have elections regularly in order to have road work done in the hinterland.
Well, low bidder gets the work. Besides lot of our local contractors get work elsewhere in the province. See those black round things on the bottom of your vehicle, they go around.
Saw a young aboriginal girl hitchhiking at the bottom of Peden Hill today. Some people never learn. Oh, well.
You can apply to those companies for labour work. My husband did last year on the Hart Hyway for paving by Summit Lake. We are going to do the same this year if he is still unemployed. They pay 8 hours reg time and then 4 hours o.t. a day st least Green Recycling from Kamloops did. It may not be for a long time but it is getting out there and working, right anything is better than nothing.
