Prince George, B.C. – The cost of snow control ended up being more than a million dollars over budget in 2008.   That’s one reason why Development Services will be asking City Council to approve a budget increase of 3.4% for the snow control tax levy.   The operations budget for snow control is projected to be $4.25 million for 2009.

Also on the table for today’s two rounds of budget discussions at City Hall:

Public Transit, and an enhancement that would increase transit service this year at a cost of $85 thousand dollars, but would cost nearly $257 thousand next year.

There are two requests for funds for the Prince George Air Improvement Roundtable. The first is for $7 thousand to bring the budget to the $70 thousand dollar mark. The second is for $5,000 to pay for stakeholder consultation for the Clean Air Bylaw amendment process.

Garbage collection will be discussed and the financial sheet indicates there will likely need to be an increase in rates  again in an effort to make the service self sufficient.

The budgets for Parks, Sewar, Water and Cemetary operations are also up for discussion.

Glad Campbells cutting taxes.. I need the money to pay the local ones.
Rediculous!
Hope our paychecks are going up too...but I doubt it.
I don't think we need more empty buses driving around the city, put money into smaller buses to carry the 5 people that use them from the Spruceland bus stop. The only buses that might be full probably are from UNBC. How much more money is going to to the Air Improvement? If they would stop wood burning and make the pulpmills, oil refinery and chemical plant to cut down their pollution we would be fine. Many mornings we get up in the morning and you could cut the air with a knife, let alone breath.
I am old enough to remember when government employees were some of the lowest paid workers. The reason was that they always had job security. By the way another way to save money is to have a volunteer fire department.

Lets really go out on a limb and fine the puplmills, oil refinery, and chemical plant every time our air is bad. Espically the oil refinery for everytime they vent and bypass their pollution control. Think of all the money the city could earn.

But as for the wood burning I hope you don't mean for houses. What would you do when the power goes off and our gas furances won't work. During this past -30 weather I was sure happy to have a wood fireplace when the furnance didn't work.
I don't think anyone can complain about snow removal 2008/2009. It has been awesome given the close frequency of snow storms. In tough times like now it might be time to save a few bucks and cut back on clearing driveway entrances.
