Prince George, B.C.- The budget for Prince George road repairs and maintenance in 2009 has been set at $3.9 million dollars. That does not include the $2.4 million that will come from the special road rehabilitation levy.
The good news is, the addition of an extra pot hole patch crew last year meant 26,458 pot holes were filled last year, over the 19,900 filled in 2007.
“We are dealing with a flexible asphalt, and that means it will flex” says Development Services Bob Radloff. “The focus is on the pavement, but the reality is the base. Not every piece of road behaves the same, some may be on clay, some may be on silt. Every road has to be designed for specific sites. We think the real problem is a very significant backlog of asset that is coming of age.”
The response time target for fixing a pothole is within two days of receiving a complaint. Manager Bill Gaal says the cold patch mix used in the winter is not expected to last “We fully expect we will have to go back to that site in the spring and use a hot patch.” The hot patch is expected to last “years” says Gaal.
While the operations budget for roads is set at $3.9 million, Councillor Don Basserman pointed out that of that budget, close to one million dollars goes towards winter sand pick up ($678,051) and summer street sweeping ($240,947).
The capital plan for road rehabilitation will be discussed at a later date.

Why did the pothole repair crew come down Domano and repair every second hole, then come back 3 weeks later and repair every second hole they left the first time and not come back and repair the 10 million potholes they left after that?
You say there was an extra crew working last year? Ya ok.
If I did my work like the managers responsible for getting these potholes repaired I would be out of work.
