Prince George, B.C.- While the Braidwood Inquiry into the death of Robert Dziekanski is on a two week break, criminology expert, Dr. Robert Gordon says the way the four officers approached Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver Airport seemed very “Gung Ho, I’m not sure I actually saw hands on guns on hip, but certainly they had a very aggressive approach.”
Speaking on the Meisner program on CFISFM this morning, Dr. Gordon, who is the head of the Criminology Department at Simon Fraser University, says certainly the senior officer (in this case Corporal Benjamin Robinson) should have taken a calmer approach as a way to lead by example for the younger officers accompanying him.
Gordon says the performance of the officers at the inquiry is questionable. “I don’t see why there is this denial that there was discussion about what happened". Gordon served as a police officer before taking on his academic career, he says talking about the event is a natural "One of the things you do as an officer on these trauma causing events is sit and talk over a cup of coffee in a debriefing, of course you talked, and to deny it hurts credibility.”
The Braidwood Inquiry will resume on March 23rd with Corporal Robinson scheduled to be the first witness taking the stand. In the meantime, transcripts of the evidence given so far, are available for reading. You can access those transcripts by clicking here.
