if any organization in Canada should get a "bailout" it should be the CBC. The largest provider of Canadian content that was created by the federal government to ensure a venue for Canadian and alternative content.

I agree, Loki. I fear that one day all we will get on radio and tv will be surplus from the USA

I actually stopped watching TV just around Christmas time. We only have a roof antenna so we get almost two channels, CKPG reception is unstable and frequently gets nothing. The only thing on both channels until 08:00 pm is those moronic entertainment news, and only a few shows after 08:00 pm through the week are worth watching. The TV is being shut off completely for longer periods of time, unless we watch a movie or something on portable media (DVD) or downloadd from the internet. now with the future digital transmission and the deactivating of over the air broadcasting we will be watching even less TV, likely none.
It's going to get pretty tough for advertisers to reach into our home when we do not have satellite or cable. I just won't pay that that total waste of time and money.
it seems that the powers that be a doing everything in their power to screw up a reasonable incursion into our lives by forcing every one to get connected with a service provider, for a fee.

CBC is a valuable service to Canadians, which should be saved.

Did I miss something, where is CBC going?
Posted by: Moses on March 12 2009 5:36 PM
The CBC deserves to take as big a hit (or bigger) than any other public or private sector organization in this country.
They treat taxpayers' money as their own permanently-guaranteed treasure trove, and waste the vast majority of it.
When they over-spend (through poor management and ridiculous union arrangements) they stick their greedy hands out to the government (taxpayers), all in the name of protecting 'Canadian identity'.
I wouldn't miss the CBC for a second if it disappeared tomorrow.

CBC has some great stuff in their web site with their oppinion250 format, and their news shows on TV and on radio... that said the CBC needs to have some big cuts I think to get rid of all those fluffy cultural manipulation programs they're putting all their resources into.
If they stuck to the news I would say great lets give them more funding, but this cultural manipulation with my tax dollars is not acceptable to me and I for one would be very happy to see cuts that force them to get back to reporting unbiased new to Canadians as their sole strategic role.

I like some aspects of CBC news programing but it is long past the time when they should be funded by our tax dollars to the extent that they are.
Modern technology has made the CBC redundant in places like the far north and other isolated area's where they used to be the only game in town.
In this day and age,you have to be self supporting like any other business.
You should also be unbiased politically, which the CBC sure as hell is not!
And "cultural manipulation" is a good way to put it Eagleone, because that's exactly what it is.
A bunch of airheaded fluff that very few listen to.
And you sure can't dance to much of it!
I would think there is room for some very serious cuts to the CBC budget.
