Tonight will be the final meeting of the existing City Council, and there are some interesting items on the agenda.
There is a request for a zoning change that will allow the expansion of gaming in the down town.
The recommendation is for a Community Gaming Center to be located in a C-1 district. Council had moved earlier this year to examine the pros and cons of the move with opublic consultation.
Only 50 people have attended the public meetings and four submissions have been received two in favor of the plan, one from the PG Masters and Seniors Lacrosse Association, the other from the United Native Nations which holds the second largest license at the present facility. In their comments, the United Native Nations says the facility will go a long way to boosting the face of the down town.
In another submission, the Multi Cultural Society says the BC Lotteries mandate is to generate revenue for the Provincial government and they ask that Council stipulate that amount of money going to charities not be reduced .
The only written negative comments came from Debora Munoz, newly elected Councilor. She won't be sworn in until December. She has made it clear she does not want an increase in any sort of gambling in the city.
