Prince George, B.C. – Progress Prince George has released what it calls “an advisory memo” to provide its collective opinion regarding opportunities presented by current economic conditions and the actions that should be taken in Prince George during these times of economic upheaval.

In short, when handed lemons, make lemonade.

“The current economic situation certainly presents challenges, but we also see significant opportunities” states Sharon Cochrane, Chair of Progress Prince George. “There are added incentives now for governments, organizations and businesses to work together to maximize opportunities and move forward initiatives that Progress Prince George has been advocating.”

The key opportunities and areas of focus identified include:

  • The opportunity for Prince George to access the stimulus funding made available by the federal and provincial governments to create jobs, promote stability and pursue the city’s long term goals and priorities.
  • New opportunities for innovative and collaborative partnerships between community leadership and like-minded local, regional and provincial entities to pursue common goals for the benefit the city and the region.
  • Maintaining focus on economic development and diversification by pursuing opportunities to advance the city’s connectivity and improve Prince George’s position as a transportation and logistics hub and to benefit from the development of mining and oil and gas projects in Northern BC.
  • Embracing the conditions for a transformation of the forest industry by encouraging more value-added activities and the successful application of new ideas for the use of forest products.
  • Opportunities to enhance the economic and social impact of education and health activities in the community.
  • Community development initiatives including air quality improvements, downtown redevelopment and encouraging full participation of the First Nations population in the community and the economy.
“Progress Prince George will continue to closely monitor global economic conditions and trends,” states Cochrane, “and identify windows of opportunity that will inevitably present themselves. Prince George will take a leadership role in working with senior governments and other stakeholders to inform policy issues and funding decisions that are of interest to Northern BC.”

I don't see enough superfluous buzzwords in this article. Perhaps Progress PG can take advantage of these slow times to find a way to fit some into press releases?
What a **WINDY**desertation. When will these people like Progress PG, IPG, etc; quit the BS and get a real job.

Will they come back a year from now and give us a progress report on the above BS. Highly unlikely.
blah blah blah...who or what the heck is "Progress Prince George?"
Gawd ...I hope nobody was paid money for this gem.
If there was a Rhino Party presence in PG, they could do a spoof on this, couldn't they?

"Regress PG"
And this is EXACTLY why our taxes have been raised to the tune of 9%. Another example of the people looking after this city pretending they are a BIG CITY council spending BIG CITY money in a time when the whole world is in a financial crisis and spending less. They got 1.3 million dollars for their share of the fines, another 4 million for their share of the gambling problem and still need to raise our taxes like banshees. I am so sick of all this bullchit like the rest of you but opinion250 is not the place to complain.....CITY HALL IS WHERE WE SHOULD BE. If they are monitoring global economic conditions and trends then why cant they see that now is not the time to be raping the people of this city. Make do with the 5.5 million you got from the gambling problems and the speeder. Stop spending on useless "NICE THINGS TO HAVE" like the Arts Centre and trails. STOP RAPING US OF MORE TAXES unless you are going to spend it on FIXING OUR FREAKING ROADS!!!
As a charter member of Bull Shit Prince George (BSPG) I fully endorse the article by Progress PG. Lots of nice fuzzy words and cliches. Since we both feed at the public trough, we should support each other.
LOL Camoose! Well said.
