Rookie P-G Council candidate, Ryan Yorston is getting ready to for an official recount of ballots.

Yorston  was squeezed out of a seat on Council by Debora Munoz who garnered 47 more votes.

Yorston says his campaign contacts have already talked to Chief Electoral Officer, Don Schaffer, who advised nothing can be done until  Schaffer announces the results as "final".

Schaffer released this  clarification on  the time frames:

Section 138 of the Local Government Act states: “The time period during which application [for a judicial recount] may be made is limited to the time between the declaration of official election results under Section 136 and 9 days after the close of general voting.” For clarity, the declaration of official voting results must be made prior to 4 p.m. four days following the close of general voting; therefore, the declaration must be made by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2005. The deadline for applying to the provincial court is Monday, November 28, 2005.

S. 139 of the Act states: “A judicial recount must be conducted in accordance with this section and completed by the end of 13 days after the close of general voting.” Therefore, the deadline for completion of a judicial recount is Friday, December 2, 2005.

Council’s inaugural meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2005.
