Gaming Centre, Let the Games Begin!

Let’s see if I’ve got this right.

First off you place the matter of the re-zoning of the C-1 to accommodate a new gaming facility towards the last of the council agenda.

You are already aware that the move to zone will not pass because a majority of Council are opposed.

But wait!

If you can get the new council to look at the matter, Gratton is in favor, while Munoz is opposed that leaves Council in a tie.

Bingo!  The Mayor gets to cast the deciding vote .

You get the matter off the table for now by saying you don’t have enough information, even though if you read the staff report to Council,  it shows the issue has been discussed to death for many months .  When asked about how much money the City should get from gambling one of your own staff says “We can’t set the amount we get from gaming, its up to the Province “.

But, alas, it affords an opportunity to have the issue brought before a new, perhaps, sympathetic council.

So you vote to have more information and in the meantime, both Rogers, who was opposed to the re zone, and Cliff Dezell are gone from Council and with them, their vote.

So now the issue could receive passage from a new council…………….How am I doing so far City Hall?

I'm Meisner, and that is one man's opinion.

Right on, Ben.
BUT the residents in this city wanted this Mayor and council, so let them all suffer the consequences.
The next 3 years shall prove very interesting in the city of Prince George-as once again-the residents will not matter a hill of beans-City Hall RULES- and that is the way it is going to remain.
It really can be rather amusing-depending on your sense of humor!!
Mines pretty upbeat-how's yours??
Lets give this gaming centre thing some thought. Here we have a situation where we are advocating building a gaming centre downtown. In other words we will bring the centre to the people, and enhance the downtown. But why?

Cant we build the gaming centre at the Casino and have it all in one place.

Maybe the Casino doesnt want us all in one place and prefers to locate in two areas to ensure that they get the best coverage to enable them to get the most money.

To the best of my knowledge there are only two groups who want gambling in a gaming centre or bingo centre. One is the Government so that it can collect more regressive taxes, and the other is the Gaming centre owners so they can make more money.

Most citizens of Prince George do not want any gambling in this town.

We now have Government involved in most vices. ie; Gambling, Smoking, Liquor Sales, whats next? prostitution?? All of the above would be considered criminal offences if they were to be tried by ordinary citizens.
Gaming, Gambling, Drugs, Prostitution, Gangs, Rapes, Needle Exchanges, Theft, Break & Enter, More Thefts, Pawn Shops, Check Cashing Stores, More Drugs, Alcohol, Beatings, Smoking, Casino's, Lottery Outlets, Bingo, Moral Decay, Family Breakdown, Divorce, Separation, School Closures, Declining Student Enrolment, Declining Birthrates, Increased Abortions, Addictions, Addiction Councelling.

Well, These are the consequences of our past decisions.

Does everyone want more of the same? Or, does anyone have any other ideas that our community might consider that would make it a more attractive place for a family to want to move to? Chester
Forget it Chester.
Put your thoughts to bed.
The deed is done.
The dye is cast.
Prince George is NOT a wonderful city, as Jack would proclaim.
Prince George is poorly run by the powers that be at City Hall.
Nobody will fix the downtown, not in our lifetime.
The bleeding heart councilor will look for more opportunities to set up the homeless in the area, or maybe some drug clinics-when actually the opening of a legal red light district would bring more tax dollars, and let the entertainers and the entertained pay their just dues.
Gambling, drugs, prostitution, panhandlers, liquor sales, pawn shops, filth-that is what the downtown of Prince George will offer.
Who would be stupid enough to go open a decent store on George Street? Or an office?
Have to operate behind locked doors to feel any measure of safety.
These die hard promoters of what can be in downtown are whistling in the wind!!!!
Beats having someone else spit in your face.
