Willow River, B.C.- Ministry of Transportation has Yellowhead Road and Bridge crews installing extra protection to help protect the Willow River bridge from being damaged by ice.

“We had some large ice floes it the pilings, and we’re just putting in some steel post to protect those pilings” says Brian Taylor of the Fort George region of the Ministry of Transportation.
The work is expected to continue today and be completed tomorrow.
This is not the first time this kind of work has been needed on the Willow River bridge says Taylor, he says it has been called for in the past when a quick melt released large chunks of ice.

Why is it, that one of these Bailey Bridges, couldn't have been used at the Cameron Street Bridge site?? They could have had that bridge back open in a few weeks. Yes, one lane, but that is what we had!!

It has worked for the Willow River Bridge for a number of years, longer than four for sure. I continue to shake my head at the b@))$h!t decisions made in this city!!

Oh well, the new bridge will be open in a couple of years, so I will quit my whining
This second "temporary bridge" at Willow River has been in place for 7 years. And every year it has been there we worry about the Spring melt. The first wooden "temporary bridge" was there for 50+ years!
Yes, it's true that this is not the first time work like this has been done, so why didn't we get a permanent replacement like the $500,000 bridge on the way to Sinclair Mills/Longworth serving very few families?
Those same families travel on the Willow bridge to do their business in P.G. along with alot of others from Upper Fraser, Aleza Lake, Giscome, and Willow.
Why do residents have to worry every time there is ice melt or high water, or even a low bed truck hauling equipment (took out the first bridge) that we are going to lose our bridge. Most of us out here go to work in Prince George everyday and we need that connection. Deactivated logging roads are unacceptable!
IMO this is B.S and I am P.O.!!!!
Yeah, Willow River just don't get treated as well as Bear Lake does. I bet there is more people living in Willow River than Bear Lake.

That Bailey Bridge has a bid of a dip. I Think Darcy's been driving too many over loads on it.

I think there should be a permenant crossing in Willow River, There should be a Sewage treatment facility, there should be a public Water system as well. I think RDFFG needs to spend about 10 million dollars to bring this little community up to snuff.

I think Barkerville has a better public utility services than Willow River. Unless the RDFFG wants to save the community as a movie locale.
It wouldn't hurt to do a little maintenance on the Hubbard to Beaver route so it could be used when the bridge is out of service. At least you wouldn't have to be stuck at the Willow Bridge for two hours waiting to get to work.
Build a 2 lane bridge. Will be needed when the mining companies discover the area.
This is a temporary bridge way past it's life cycle. The far end of the bridge is all coming apart and just needs a good tree to hit it and it’s done.

Over last 50/60 years millions of dollars taken out in taxes from the east line and we don’t have a commitment to replace our school or get a reliable bridge. It the bridge goes there is NO other way for about 400 people on the east side to get out. The Bateman Creek Bridge was taken out two years ago and also not replaced either.

Someone needs to step up and do the right thing.
The bridge dropped 2 inches on the one side since they started working on it a few days ago. Wait until the ice jam comes free up river and takes it right out.
Then maybe someone will put a new one in.
I hope I can get home today ...
