Prince George, B.C.- The Service Canada Centre for Youth has officially opened in Prince George at 1363 4th Avenue.
Youth Service Officer Kyle Flannagan says this is expected to be a challenging summer to link students with work because of the economic downturn, but it is still valuable for students to sign up. “It’s worth it or them to come in and make sure their resume is up to date and to learn some job searching skills. It is also a valuable place for employers as they can advertise their openings free.”
Last year, the centre in Prince George linked some 250 youth with 600 vacancies. Although only open for a week, Flannagan says a different employment picture is developing this year “So far we’ve had 35 youth sign up, but just 15 vacancies to fill.” He says the good news is, the wages are on par with last year, “We’re on pace for the same amount of pay as last year which was in the $10 to $15 dollars an hour range.”
Employers with vacancies, or anyone needing some work done, can post a listing at the Service Canada Centre for Youth by calling 250-561-5200 extension 329. “Whatever the job, big or small, short or long term, we can help you fill it” says Flannagan.

There will be a few more students using these services this year as "Our roots are in the community" Canfor will not be hiring any students this year. Too bad! But they will make up for that by adding more 'air quality' to the air shed over the dirty little mill town.
Looks like the bleeding hearts are gonna get there fresh air, but whose gonna pay for the kids education. It is a vicous circle.
Good news, Carole James is gonna stay on as the leader. Great news, tee hee hee heee.
Youth Employment Centre? As opposed to? Kinda sounds like age discrimination to me. Get the HRC on this right away. Sounds like there may be a few bucks in it for someone who is willing to create a fuss.
