Williams Lake, B.C.-  Fire crews from the Cariboo Fire Centre are working to contain a wildfire west of Alexis Creek.

The fire is burning west of Alexis Creek just off Highway 20.  The flames broke out Wednesday evening and grew to approximately 120 hectares due to wind and dry condition.

Twenty three fire fighters worked on the fire Wednesday, establishing fire guards with the help of heavy machinery, five air tankers and a helicopter. Approximately 100 personnel were on site yesterday, with heavy equipment, and helicopters available to assist.

There are homes in the vicinity of the fire, but officials say they are not threatened by the flames.

Cariboo Fire Centre Information Officer Grace Pickell says the fire is human caused, but details are still under investigation.

The Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to 71 wildfires since April 1st.  All but one have been caused by humans.

Someone needed work
Given the Pine Beetle dead wood between Willy's Puddle and all the way to PG,any fire in that area has the potential to be a major disaster!
Whoa!
This could be the start of a very busy fire season with all those dead pine beetle trees and their dead needles littering the forest floor. Perfect fuel.
I recently came home from a road trip to Vancouver and drove by the 70 Mile House brush fire damage. The area looks like the hand of an unnamed deity came down from the sky and leveled it with a blow torch.
Call me old fashioned, but I still call them forest fires as opposed to the American term of wild fires. I guess wild fires sounds a lot sexier than forest fires but they both still accomplish the same thing.
