Fort Saint James, B.C.- An armed standoff in the first nation community of Yekoochee near Fort Saint James came to a peaceful conclusion Thursday according to RCMP.
Police say they were notified at 11:40 Wednesday night about an intoxicated male who had barricaded himself in a home with a rifle. The suspect was pointing the weapon at his head and threatened to harm anyone that went into the home.
Police set up a perimeter around the home and brought in the Emergency Response Team, a Police Dog Unit, and a trained RCMP Negotiator from Prince George.
Local First Nations Policing officer Corporal Les Hobenshield was able to talk with the suspect Thursday morning at approximately 10 a.m. As a result, the male came out of the home and turned himself over to the RCMP ERT unit.
He was transported to Stuart Lake Hospital under the Mental Health Act and later transferred to Prince George Regional Hospital for treatment.
RCMP are thanking the community of Yekoochee for helping to bring the situation to a peaceful ending.
