The Quesnel UNBC/CNC Campus

The newly constructed UNBC/CNC Campus in Quesnel is nearly ready for occupancy.
Staff are expected to start moving in to the campus on the south side of the Quesnel River by the end of next week.

The $12 million dollar facility will be home to a variety of degree programs, including a  new Master of Education group.
It will also be home to 22 students who will join the nursing program.

The Campus is a showcase for wood, and was  built by Lauren Construction of Williams Lake.

The Campus had it's first public function this week, hosting the public input session of the Academic Visioning Initiative.

At first glance I would have to say what a good looking building.

Then again, that is a heck of a lot of glass and tons of volume of air in the "hall" which has to be heated and cooled during the seasons.

I wonder if they have as much concern for energy efficiency and use of alternate energy sources, such as geothermal, as they have for dispalying a few pieces of wood here and there in what is essentially a steel, concrete, and drywall building.

Government funded public buildings such as this not only owe it to society to present an image of efficient and aesthetic design, but one which leads the way in state of the art building systems designed to save operating money over the long haul.

I assume the architects are Chernoff Thompson who appear to be designing most of the UNBC buildings.
