About ten years ago this same kind of thing happened to my brother on his way home from downtown after the bar. They attacked him from behind, so he didn't even see who it was and was lucky enough that a passing car found him unconscious on the sidewalk and took him to the hospital. In his case it was a totally unprovoked attack by strangers for no other reason then to attack someone walking alone.

IMO its people from out of town that do this kind of thing cruising the streets looking to prove how tough they are in the big city.

It happened to me once outside the old brew house nightclub on Brunswick, but I was able to turn the tables on them. They attacked from behind and I didn't see it coming... it was a complete surprise, but I have a hard head and got lucky and was able to get back up to my feet fast and fight them like real men should fight getting the better of one of them anyways... I had a lot of friends show up shortly while the fight was on and the strangers turn and ran (about 6 of them).. nobody recognized them and we figured they were tree planters out looking for trouble....
Sure blame tree planters, hmmmm the most hippy people around town. This incident is a horrible and what happened to you brother is horrible but don't accuse a group of people because the last thing they do is come start fights.
This is nothing new to this or any city unfortunately. Many years ago I was swarmed by a group of individuals on Ahbau behind Spruceland Mall. No reason, they were just doing it for "kicks".

Tree Planters are far from the problem. I've worked in a few drinking establishments and found that it was the local yahoos that pick the fights with planters most often.
Tree planters work so hard, they don't have the energy to fight.
Gotta agree about the treeplanters. I actually don't recall ever talking to a treeplanter who wasn't friendly. Usually they are the ones being assaulted by the local idiots.
You're right its probably wrong to single out the tree planters... although they party pretty hard on their days off and stick together like a pack, so its easy to cast suspicion on those strangers... but who knows... the boys from Quesnel, or the Hart, or even the hood have been known for these kinds of things as well... all believe they can become legends by taking someone down in downtown PG, and for the ones that operate in a pack mentality almost anything goes and its usually a cowardly act, which is why they will operate in a pack.
