100 Mile House, B.C. -  The Conservation Officer Service has checked out reports of a Cougar sighting in the 108 Mile area, but can't confirm whether there is one of the big cats in the area.

C.O. James Zucchelli says a walk through the area with a dog picked up only old signs that a cougar was in the area.  However, Zucchelli says he high deer population in the region would make it possible for a cougar to be seen in the area, as deer are one of the cats' main food sources.

Zucchelli says there is no reason to be concerned just yet, but he says it is good idea to keep your children and pets close by.

Cougar attacks on humans are very rare, although a 7 year old boy was jumped by a Cougar last Saturday near Pinnacles Park in Quesnel.  The boy escaped with cuts and scratches.

If you spot a cougar, you should contact the Conservation Officer Service by calling 1-877-952-7277.
