The fire, now estimated at 4,575 hectares, grew 50 hectares overnight as it burned down slope near Shorts Creek. The burn was a moderately vigorous surface fire that burned north, while winds carried the smoke to the east making the fire activity visible from afar. This is a priority action area of the fire being actioned by three pieces of heavy equipment, four helicopters bucketing hot spots, and airtankers laying retardant.
Significant smoke was given off yesterday as temperatures rose, humidity dropped, burn-off activities continued and fire behaviour was active.
Fire crews had significant success building fire guard yesterday, and helicopter bucketing has comtinued to cool hot spots. Today they will continue the contigency guard.
There are road closures and restrictions in the area of the fire. Fintry Provincial Park remains closed until futher notice as fire crews are using this as a staging area for operations.
