By a vote of 8-1, Prince George City Council has turned down a rezoning application to allow for commercial office space in a building in the Carter Light Industrial Area.
The Law Firm of Heather, Sadler, Jenkins had been seeking the change in zoning on behalf of a numbered company (633135 BC Ltd.) at 1552 Lyon Street. The applicant wanted to use the second storey of the building for office space.
Councillor Glen Scott was the only one to vote in favour of giving the application first two readings, which would have sent it to a public hearing. His Council colleagues opposed the move, citing the Official Community Plan's intent that the downtown remain the focus for new commercial office space.
"If we're quick to let the commercial office space proliferate throughout the industrial parts of the city, we'll be defeating our stated focus in the Community Plan to re-develop the downtown, " says Councillor Don Bassermann, "That's one of those key purposes."

That law firm should have just moved into that building and told the city to "take a hike" and make it a long one.
Let a rookie city lawyer take on the big boys.
Surely that law firm could have achieved success, as the judges would have automatically come on board, wouldn't they???
I am sorry the residents may have to miss out on this circus event.
I have seen offices on the second floor of buildings in this area, so where is the "cut off" point???
Come on , Heather, Sadler, Jenkins, and give this city a run for their money, and we can watch the fall of this dictatorship.
Step up to the plate, and come out swinging!!!
