Burn Off Scheduled In Cariboo

Williams Lake, B.C. – Unburnt fuels were scheduled to be removed from the northwest flank of the Lava Canyon Fire west of Williams Lake, Saturday.
The fuels are to be removed through a burn off conducted by experienced personnel and will take place weather conditions permitting. The area proposed to be burnt off is to the southeast of the Chilko River.
Smoke from this area may be visible to the surrounding areas including Alexis Creek. No homes or structures are in the vicinity of the burn off. For more information on smoke and your health please see the information available at www.interiorhealth.ca.
Friday, 40 firefighters worked to contain the spot fire on the east side of the Taseko River. These firefighters were supported by five helicopters and 27 pieces of heavy equipment. The fire is currently estimated at 10,800 hectares.
The Cariboo Fire Centre reminds the public that despite the precipitation there is still a high fire hazard in most areas of the Cariboo. Campfire bans and open burning restrictions are still in place, and patrols are scheduled throughout the Cariboo over the weekend.
