Williams Lake, B.C. – The Lava Canyon fire, located 15 kilometres southwest of Alexis Creek, is now estimated to be at 10,339 hectares.
Approximately 100 personnel were working on the fire Sunday, supported by six helicopters and 13 pieces of heavy equipment.
Due to unfavourable conditions Saturday, the planned burn off on the northwest flank of the Lava Creek fire did not occur. The burn will be conducted as soon as conditions allow.
The Cariboo Fire Centre reminds everyone that despite recent precipitation there is still a high fire hazard in most areas of the Cariboo. Campfire bans and open burning restrictions are still in place. To report a wildfire or unattended campfire please call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on cellular phones. The Cariboo Fire Centre covers an area of about 10.3 million hectares, stretching from Clinton (Loon Lake) to the south, north to Cottonwood River just north of Quesnel, east to the western boundary of Wells Gray Provincial Park and west to the western boundary of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park.
