Burn Off Successful Near Alexis Creek

Williams Lake, B.C. – Yesterday’s weather conditions allowed for a successful burn off to be completed on the Lava Canyon Fire, 15 kilometres southwest of Alexis Creek. Today smoke will be an issue in the area and it may also drift as far as Lillooet.
The burn off is estimated to be approximately 2,000 hectares. The fire is currently estimated at 10,339 hectares, not including the burn off area. A more accurate estimate will be available tomorrow.
In preparation for the burn off there were air tankers on site, as well as a scooper amphibious aircraft, and two extra helicopters. Resources on the fire today include 79 firefighters, 6 helicopters, 11 pieces of heavy equipment, and 13 support staff.

The Cariboo Fire Centre covers an area of about 10.3 million hectares, stretching from Clinton (Loon Lake) to the south, north to Cottonwood River just north of Quesnel, east to the western boundary of Wells Gray Provincial Park and west to the western boundary of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park.
