Prince George, B.C. – A single vehicle crash on Highway 97 south at Pacific has left a male in critical condition.
RCMP say the male was alone in his Toyota pickup when it went off the road last night.  Analysts are not certain of the speed, but believe the male was not wearing his seatbelt at the time and as a result, he was thrown from the vehicle. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
He is in critical condition in hospital and is expected to be transported by air ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital.

I hope that he will be alright! But still driving and NOT wearing a SEAT BELT?

Unbelievable!

If he drove off the hwy. and over that steep bank between Forest Powersports and Brandt Tractor, he's lucky to be alive. I know that Pacific street is further South, so maybe it was 'only' a 20' deep ditch instead of a 30'.
I wonder if there are plans to line that edge with concrete barriers, because there sure is not much of a shoulder along that stretch. We will see a lot of vehicles sliding down the bank in winter without the barriers. One man's opinion.
metalman.
Hard to believe that some people still don't wear seatbelts!
I feel weird just moving my truck in the driveway without one on!
Recently, I saw a woman who had the seat belt snapped up behind her in Cache Creek, just to shut down the little ding, ding, thingy that drives you nuts if your belt isn't on!
Guess you just can't fix stupid!
and no...the seat belt wasn't snapped up IN Cache Creek itself!
:-)
Saw a guy the other day driving with his infant son in his lap. Now that's stupid. I hope he was captured by the cops and slapped with a huge fine.

Who do you think he would sue if he had to stop in a hurry and the infant was injured?

I agree that stretch of highway is a multiple death location in waiting... I don't blame the driver one bit... that is a dangerous stretch of road right now with all the recent changes to it, and probably the most dangerous in the city with the size of that ditch and the almost none existent curb prior to the ditch... If I'm correct the lighting is very poor there as well at night. I drove by about a week ago and thought to myself this is a location people will die at (the ditch is far to step and deep with no retaining wall)... it seemed so obvious at the time... sad to see its happening already.
The guy put his truck on it's side just past the intersection where Mohawk and Shell are across the street. Considering the speed limit is currently 50 kph and he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, I can't understand how this couldn't have been his fault.
makes sense... good to have more facts... still that steep deep ditch is a fatality waiting to happen IMO.
If we're so sure seatbelts are the answer to life and death and we're so damned concerned, why are there none in school busses? Does anyone care about their kids in a bus? I guess not. I know, I know: It's all about money, not safety, as they would have you believe.
I believe many places do have seatbelts on school buses.
I agree supertech. Some people were saying seatbelts would do more harm on school busses BUT there is a harness style seat belt that was proven safe as it fits the children better than the normal seat belt.
