The former Premier's waterfront property was auctioned by Richie Bros. today

Despite interest from as far away as Dubai, Former Premier Bill Vander Zalm's 85-acres of waterfront property at Tatton Lake, just north of 100 Mile House, sold to a contractor from the Lower Mainland for $325,000.00.

Ritchie Bros. Spokesperson, Clay Tippett says there were 1800 bidders registered for today's auction in Surrey.  He says, "Vander Zalm was there, the media was there, it was fun."

"It was quite a thing to watch," says Tippett, "We always get good crowds at Ritchie Bros. auctions, but today it was standing room only for the selling of this property."

The Vice-President of marketing says Vander Zalm was quite pleased with the final bid.  "He never did tell us what he thought it would bring, but after it sold he said, effectively, that it brought a fair number, it brought about what he was hoping for."

Tippett says he doesn't think the people interested in the Middle East actually had a chance to bid because the price went beyond what they were willing to pay.  "It was advertised in Germany, as well, so we had a lot of inquiries."
