Truck drivers and other stakeholders are gathering in Smithers this afternoon and evening to discuss safety issues as the winter logging season gears up...
The gathering begins as news comes of another fatality in the industry: A logging truck driver was killed instantly yesterday on a forestry road near Houston, B.C..
RCMP say the fully-loaded truck left the Raspberry Logging Road and went over a steep embankment, losing its load of logs. Police say the cab of the truck was crushed from the impact.
The victim's name has not been released, but he was apparently from Quesnel, B.C.. Worksafe BC assisted Houston and Burns Lake RCMP in the initial crash scene investigation. And the BC Corner's Service continues to investigate.
The fatality brings to 42 the number of people killed in the BC Forest Industry this year.
