Clinton, B.C. - Additional fresh and rested BC Forest Service firefighters arrive at the Kelly Creek fire later today.  They will join the effort to contain the fire on the steep slopes high up above the Fraser River in the northwest corner of the fire area.

Kelly Creek fire crews will be flown by helicopter into northwest sector helipads to continue establishment of hand built fireguards, fuel free zones and hose lays.

When conditions are right, firefighters will burn off fuels inside established fireguards to help prevent the wildfire from escaping over the guards and spreading into adjacent unburned forest.

Yesterday despite a warm overnight temperature inversion, hot and dry weather conditions and gusty afternoon winds firefighters made good progress and increased the containment of the Kelly Creek fire to 60%.

The Kelly Creek fire area remains at 19,525 hectares in area and today 102 firefighters, six helicopters and 17 heavy equipment units are engaged in fire control operations.

The area surrounding the Kelly Creek wildfire will remain closed to public access. This Restricted Area Order is in place to ensure fire personnel and public safety.
