Prince George, B.C.- For the second time in a month, the head of the Prince George District Teachers Federation has called upon the School District 57 Board of Education to reduce administration before cutting teaching positions.
In his presentation to the School District 57 Board of Education regular meeting, Matt Pearce pointed out that in the School District of Nanaimo-Ladysmith, the drop in enrolment is similar to what has been experienced in School District 57. “They have 6 senior administrators and 5 District principals” says Pearce. That compares to seven senior administrators in School District 57 and 9 District Principals. Pearce says before the School District starts cutting teaching positions, it take a close look at reducing administration first.
Pearce says when compared to Nanaimo-Ladysmith, School District 57 is spending half a million dollars a year more than it needs to in administration alone.

When I first came to this district we had more students than we do now. We also had about half the administrators we do today.
Also, look at the logic of building a brand new school to hold 800 students that are mostly bussed and then looking at closing two other schools, population total 700, that don't have many students bussed in.
