Prince George, B.C.- For the second time in a month, the head of the Prince George District Teachers Federation has called upon the School District 57 Board of Education to reduce administration before cutting teaching positions.

In his presentation to the School District 57 Board of Education  regular meeting, Matt Pearce pointed out that in the School District of Nanaimo-Ladysmith, the drop in enrolment is similar to what has been experienced in School District 57. “They have 6 senior administrators and 5 District principals” says Pearce. That compares to seven senior administrators in School District 57 and 9 District Principals. Pearce says before the School District starts cutting teaching positions, it take a close look at reducing administration first.

Pearce says when compared to Nanaimo-Ladysmith, School District 57 is spending half a million dollars a year more than it needs to in administration alone.

Right on, Matt.

When I first came to this district we had more students than we do now. We also had about half the administrators we do today.

Also, look at the logic of building a brand new school to hold 800 students that are mostly bussed and then looking at closing two other schools, population total 700, that don't have many students bussed in.
While cuts to the education system are of great concern, why haven't we heard anything about the cut backs at Northern Health that has resulted in the layoff of dozens of registered nurse? All staff at the PG Detox unit have been given their walking papers and will be replaced by "counsellors" and LPNs. Even more nurses have been laid off in the surgical wards. UNBC keeps cranking out more registered nurses for positions that may no longer exist. Where's the media coverage on this? Why are highly trained, front line positons being eliminated while the Northern Health Bureaucracy seems to keep growing?
Everything government does is usually wrong and that is because of large corporations buying politicians. We need to TAKE control of our governments and refuse to be 'ruled'. We are far to complacent, apathetic and indifferent. We lack the energy to get off our butts and start a revolt. We had 100 people (maybe) show up to a rally against the HST. I read every day on this forum "It will make no difference what we do". The refederation Party is offering something that can work and is legal. Everyone votes Liberal or NDP because they like 'the Devil they know' better than rocking the boat. We need a revolution in this country bad; too bad we lack the guts to start one. We have too much money and we're too comfortable and Gordon Campbell knows that.
