Prince George, B.C.-   A break and enter at a Ewert Crescent home early this morning has resulted in the theft of 17 firearms.
RCMP say ten handguns and seven long guns were taken from a home in the 2400 block.
Investigating officers were not immediately available to give further information on the type of firearms, if they were registered, or if there were any storage concerns that could lead to possible charges against the owner.
Anyone with any information or who may have seen anything suspicious in the area is asked to call the Prince George RCMP.

lol guy gets broken into and may be charged...bad luck or what
That's what the firearms laws are meant to do....remove all the firearms from everyone.
Oh great, more guns on the streets!
Why does any one person require 17 firearms in the first place?
Exactly. Why would the average person require 10 handguns? Unless its a collection, which is the only way to make the situation look less shady.
If the Owner had 10 Registered Handguns, and 7 Registered Long Guns...Then the Police Must figure He or She must be a upstanding Citizen.
Spring and sunshine you dont deserve an answer. Gun ownership within the laws of Canada is this mans right, he doesnt have to justify it. It is too early in the morning to go through the whole process of showing you where questions such as yours inevitably lead so i will just leave it at this:
There is nothing illegal and hence nothing wrong with owning 10, 0r 100 handguns. What is an average person anyway ? Who says this guy was average? By the way, it only takes one gun to shoot someone and criminals dont tend to own them legally.
The biggest problem on this site (and it is one) is the tendancy of people to accuse the innocent, even the victims of being 'shady' or 'crooked' or deserving what they got. I realise it isnt PC to call such attitude unchristian but thats what it is. For the secular and non christians out there here is the translation: It isnt justified and it isnt nice.
Take this nastiness, add some cop haters and combine that with the ignorance and eagerness of those who seek to punish everyone who isnt 'average' and to give away the rights of others and you have a toxic mix of kneejerk illogic.
Thank God we have firearms laws. At least now the police can track down these guns, at least if they were registered which is required by law. I hope this (former) owner is charged with improper storage, and will face all possible charges if the guns were not registered.
all Firearms were registered and properly stored in a locked room and in a safe. This what the RCMP say. NO UNSAFE STORAGE.. Owner Deceased...so much for the Gun Registry KNOWING WHAT IS GOING ON...Maybe executor had them?? Which would be completely Legal.
Herbster you are an idiot. You want someone prosecuted without knowing any details whatsoever. Why even comment if you are so unconcerned with tha facts? I suppose your logic (if you bothered with reasons at all) would be that the guns MUST have been improperly stored since someone managed to steal them. That is neither fair nor resonable.
I have often wondered why gun enthusiasts have reacted no strongly to ANY regulations involving gun ownership. I think it might be because regardless of how reasonable the regs might be, there will always be those who try to use them as a club.
Caranmacil, the mere mention of guns seems to set you off, so try this thought experiment. If someone had 19 sticks of dynamite that was stolen, wouldn't you suspect that the dynamite was improperly stored? Why should the onus on gun owners be any less? In fact gun owners should face a higher bar of responsibility, since dynamite can only go off once. Guns can keep on killing indefinitely. Gun owners seem to want all their rights without acknowledging that rights carry with them responsibilities.
No, actually, if someone stole some dynamite i would not jump to the conclusion that someone stored it improperly. It is possible to steal something regardless of how well it was stored. You reasoning is faulty here in a big way. Instead of blaming criminals, the failure of the justice system as a deterrent, etc. you want to blame the victim. You are certainly aware that it would be impossible to prevent all thefts of guns, dynamite or anything else.
I do have a hair trigger (punny i know) when it comes to people shooting (:)) their mouths off in thinly disguised attacks on gun owners. Gun owners already have a higher bar of responsibility when it comes to their rights to keep and own guns. You might want to research that. This is made even more weighty by the fact that in the case of virtually any criminal complaint, the RCMP has the habit of reviewing ones permits, storage etc. before they really get started on the real issue. You can bet that they were pretty thorough regarding the owners storage facilities in this case. Gun owners who have registered (as i have) also have the pleasure of knowing that the RCMP will treat them as possible threats whenwever they are called to their homes (they check on gun ownership on the way to responding). I still remember the picture in the citizen : a police officer, gun sliding along the wall of the house (i believe her gun was drawn) on her way to ringing the bell. She was investigating a report (by an idiot postal worker)of an improperly stored firearm (it was a pellet gun). Does all this sound like guns owners dont face their responsibilities? I think the bar is high enough, you seem to think that the height of the bar ought to be set so that no one will be able to clear it. I suspect your aims are to discourage gun ownership, not encourage safety.
Forget the dynamite (which is often stolen by the way), how about stolen cars? I would be willing to bet that more people are hurt or killed by stolen cars than by stolen guns (in Canada). Maybe people ought to start beefing up their car security if they want to escape prosecution.... Or maybe, just maybe folks ought to be concentrating on cracking down on criminals, rather than blaming the gun owners who are obeying the law. Does anyone even care what the punishment will be for the two thugs arrested with illegal fire arms? When is your outraged comments under that story? Oh , i forgot, its too hard to punish people who dont care about the law. So much easier to make gunowners (who have something to lose) take the fall.
Right on caranmacil...it don't get any easier to understand than that. Sooo... why does goverment...and so many in this country have such a hard time understanding and seeing the real problem here?
