Prince George, B.C.- Today was another one for the weather record books.
The temperature in Prince George hit 14.7 degrees today, that’s half a degree warmer than it has ever been. The old record of 14.2 was set in 1980.
Environment Canada meteorologist Greg Pearce says the warm temperature is the result of a major low pressure system stalled in the Gulf of Alaska. “That system is drawing the warm weather up from the south” says Pearce, who adds it is also responsible for some gusty winds.”We had predicted winds gusting from 50 to 70 km/hour, but Prince George actually had some gusts this afternoon of 85 kilometres an hour.”
He record breaking warm won’t be around for long. Pearce says the system is weakening and moving off to the Alaska panhandle. Still, Pearce says the high tomorrow is expected to be a pleasant 8 degrees, “That’s still above the seasonal norm for Prince George. Normally the daily high at this time of year is plus 3.”
On the cold side, the coldest November 5th on record was in 1942 when the temperature dipped to minus 23.9.
