Bell En Route From Hong Kong

BC Agriculture Minister and Prince George-North MLA Pat Bell arrives at the Prince George Airport this afternoon, back from the World Trade Organization negotiations in Hong Kong.
Bell was heading a three-person delegation and had set the ambitious goal of trying to sway the group to eliminate the huge subsidies that are levied against agriculture products. (click here, to read earlier story)
The talks did produce a last-minute deal on farm export subsidies, but it fell well short of the detailed set of formulas for cutting farm and industrial tarriffs & subsidies.
The agreement calls on wealthy countries to eliminate farm subsidies by 2013. Bell has said BC has the lowest subsidies on agriculture in Canada.
