Doug Walls is scheduled to appear before Judge Evan Blake beginning January 17th.

That will mark the start of the case arising out of the closing of the Fred Walls and Sons car dealership back in 1998.

Walls is charged along with Mike Millard on charges of fraud over $5000 .00 dollars.

Millard has opted for a trial in the Supreme Court before a Judge and Jury.

The CIBC claims it lost $2,000,000.00 dollars through check kiting during the final days of the Fred Walls and Sons car dealership.

guilty or innocent? if this is the sort of time line our justice system works on (1998 - 2006),
then imo it is a joke and needs help.
What's the betting his lawyers will bring that up at the trial and argue the charges should be dropped because it took to long to get to trial.
Is Shirley Bond going to testify for or against her buddy, or has she already forgoten his name?
I have money that says Doug will 'walk'. Just like Martins' theives in Ottawa. The scapegoats get a fine and everyone else walks.
Isn't it interesting how much time has been allowed to lapse between the time the Fred Walls Dealership closed and a scheduled date to go to court.

I would like to know if anybody's legal counsel is repsonsible for the delays or postponements?

So, when does "slipped my memory" become admissible in court. Or, "Sorry, I don't recall, it was such a long time ago".

I can think of a multitude of ways how one can find loopholes to get out of this one.

We need to elect judges. And they need to be accountable to those who elected them. Their responsibility should be to carry out justice, not draft law.

When someone is guilty, they are still guilty and justice needs to be served.

No more loopholes, no more exceptions, no more drama.

I truly question the effectiveness of our justice system. It is apparent to me that it is not working. Justice is not being served. The penalty's do not match the crime.

The victims are given less consideration in most cases than the criminals.

Am I the only one who thinks this way? Chester
Chester..Even if it will make you angry..I agree with you, as do MOST people, Except Lawyers who are LOWLIFES anyway so do not count!
Certainly he will "walk."
The "statute of limitations" should have cut in there somewhere along the line.
Probably 5 years!!!!
Poor bank-and to think it took 2 MILLION DOLLARS worth of kiting before they caught on that something was amiss.
Proof-it is hard to get good help-even in the banking business!!!!

No. Once a legal action has started it doesn't matter how long it takes before the defendant has his day in court. In the meantime both sides had an opportunity to get all their material together by conducting 'discoveries' and so forth. A thorough job will ensure that justice is served in the end.

That is how the system works. Usually it takes a very long time.

Of course, later on there may be appeal(s) which can drag on some more.

Until then the defendant is deemed to be innocent.
Justice served in a courtroom???
Where have I been all these years???
Courts are basically a farce- and all these cases do is fill some lawyers pockets.
The longer they can drag it out, the larger the take for them.
They really are the experts at "ripping off."
Our so called "Justice System" is a major laughing matter.
Good guys come last.
The only winners in any case are the lawyers.
It is a WIN WIN for them.
