Local Student Makes Top 8 In World Championship Taekwon-do

Opening cermonies in Argentina
Prince George- Erin Bull, a 17 year old, Grade 12 student at College Heights Senior Secondary has just returned from Mar Del Plata Argentina where she was a part of a 54 person Canadian Team competing at the 2009 XVI Senior and X Junior World Championship of Taekwon-do. Erin, a second degree black belt, earned a spot on the National team with Gold medal wins in her middleweight class at the National Championships in Montreal and the CanAms in Trois Riviers earlier this year.
In Argentina Erin lost her first round pattern match against a competitor from Argentina and was eliminated before moving to the Individual sparring competition on the third day of competition. In that competition she met a competitor from Jamaica in the first round. Her weight class consisted of 25 competitors from around the world. After winning her first match Erin moved on to face a competitor from Germany. Erin won that match and faced a young lady from Ireland in the quarter finals. After a close match Erin lost the third match to the Irish competitor who went on to win the silver medal losing her final match to a competitor from Argentina.
Erin finished the Individual sparring somewhat disappointed but finishing in the top eight in the world.
The competition concluded for Erin on the final day of competition when she and her Team Canada junior sparring team were eliminated by Argentina in the Team sparring event.
