A 28-suite apartment building in Fort St. James sold for $640,000.00 at yesterday's Ritchie Bros. auction in Prince George...

Ritchie Bros. Vice-President of Marketing, Clay Tippett says, "I think the buyer actually lives in Prince George, but has business interests in Fort St. James."  Tippett says, "There was on-line bidding from outside the province, but, in the end, it was between the local bidder and one on the Lower Mainland."

According to information about the buildling on the company's website, the gross income was estimated at $145,000.00 annually.

Tippett says the sellers are pleased with the result, "They achieved a price that was more than fair as far as they're concerned and they're happy to have it sold."

A wrecking/towing business in McBride also went in yesterday's sale, with the property going for $37,500.00.  Tippett says, "Len, the owner, finally gets to retire so that's a happy story."

The sale follows one two weeks ago that saw former Premier Bill Vander Zalm sell off a piece of lakefront property in the Cariboo for $325,000.00 (click here, for earlier story).

Tippett says as Ritchie Bros. continues to expand into different markets, like real estate, there's a growing interest internationally.  He says the Fort St. James property and McBride business had almost 1,000 webpage viewings in the week leading up to the auction.  The Marketing VP says buyers are drawn to the "true auction" at Ritchie Bros. where there's no minimum price and everything sells to the highest bidder.

Well Lefty, I'm not sure your comment is worthy of a response, but it appears to me that you have never been a landlord. If you had, your comments would be much more sympathetic to the Landlord. Chester
Hold it right there-Lefty!!
The only way you would know plenty of those "slum Landlords" is possibly because you may have skipped out on them????
Just a suggestion!!!
I have dealt with many welfare recipients.
Maybe I just attract bad luck, but the liars, cheats and thieves have been the norm.
Then the government demands the damage deposit back, so you inform them the tenant stole the furniture, broke out windows, broke off the oven door, and the damages and theft far exceeded the damage deposit.
Logic says you should be able to utilize it to mitigate a percentage of the loss.
NO WAY-the government will lien a piece of your property.
The government is as crooked as the people they are paying for the keep of.
The majority of these government assisted recipients, (with our money), should be employed in some manner-and even if they had to be subsidized with welfare, they should be obligated to work for some of their keep.
Not necessary!!!
Some women have more babies to increase their allowable income from the government.
This system stinks-and the government should hire people to police this system, as there are so many that are collecting when they are not entitled.
Man, this is a sore spot with me-and troubles me just to get into it.
Lazy bunch of scumbags-and the landlords are not the bad guys-as the welfare bums are damn lucky someone will take them in at all.
Why do you think the governments says a landlord cannot discriminate against renters. If they didn't have that law. a number of welfare people would not find any accommodation, as I sure as hell do not want any.
So top that!!!!
No s**t, Gypsy.
One of many nightmare welfare stories- I used rent a bsmt suite to a guy on welfare who, if you weren't standing there when the cheque came, would not pay the rent. When I called his "worker" to try & get the rent paid directly I was told (arrogantly) there was no way as the idea was to help him "learn responsibility". When I pointed out that considering we were talking about a 35 yr old healthy male on welfare & that ship had obviously sailed she basically hung up on me. Short story long, I had no choice but to turf "buddy" out & never rent to another welfare case.
I'm sure "Lefty", however, would say it it's my fault for being a big enough piece of human garbage just to have a suite to rent.
Grab a brain there, Lefty.
No discrimination-cannot refuse to rent to welfare recipients-that tops the list of reasons for renting to them.
I have worked diligently at times to obtain welfare for individuals when I felt they were entitled to it. Many are good people and just need temporary assistance, as they have no intention of remaining on the "take" for any extended period of time.
Others are just common leeches, and they remain on welfare, raising their offspring on welfare, and their offspring like the soft touch, and we have that good old vicious circle-generations on welfare.
They have no pride, and develop an attitude the world, (and the good workers and tax payers), owe them a living.
They have no self respect, and no respect for others.
When one sees grown men drinking beer, smoking, feet up watching T V, and it is all carried on at the sole expense of the taxpayers, yeah, right- it upsets me. The lazy bums even let the spouse cut the lawn.
I have paid taxes for umpteen years to support creeps like this, and I have likely paid more in taxes than you will ever earn, Lefty, and none of it was "off the backs" of welfare recipients.
I could really open your eyes, but it could be at the expense of exposing my identity. NOT about to happen.
It is people like you who judge without knowledge that angers me.
Your arrogance is exceeded only by your ignorance.
I sure hope they post this!!!!
GO STRAIGHT TO HELL YOU COMMIE PIECE OF ***!
Go ahead - ban me.
Gypsy, you could have written a chapter out of my book. Good on you.

I agree with you 100%. I also have worked my tail off to try to provide decent rental space for those who will never own their own property.

The financial risk, the abuse, the lack of support from our government agency's, the lack of respect from those who are the recepients of my good nature and generousity are a few reasons why I will never be a landlord again. And I was just a hardworking, T-4'd employee who thought I could create some value for others while building some kind of future financial stability for my family. Not!

And all I got for my troubles is s--t and abuse from people just like Lefty. Not to mention the financial setback.

I have to commend those who are willing to risk all they have to provide comfortable housing for those who would not otherwise be able to provide it on their own.

The reward does not justify the risk, I can assure you. Chester
Lefty-you most certainly could not debate with fourth graders, let alone adults.
Did I say Income Taxes-or did I simply state taxes.
Many taxes we are forced to pay have NOTHING to do with income-or are you unaware of property taxes, sales tax, G S T, tobacco tax, liquor tax, hidden taxes etc????
You are simply put---"a waste of my good time."
Have a good Christmas, and keep quiet.
Either that-or grab a brain-one that is functioning!!
Congratulations mr. Slum Lord. I hope you enjoy profitting from welfare recipients.

If that's not flame bait, pal, I don't know what is.
I missed all the spitting. Are you guys taking sides on the towing business. Those guys are just doing their job. They charge everyone for storing their junk when they repo whatever, from bums that don't pay. Some people think they are low life but lots of welfare bums sign up for autos they have no intention of paying for.
