Into the frigid waters of Ness Lake this afternoon, all in the name of fundraising for the Bible Camp
Prince George, B.C.- Fifty five brave souls took part in the Ness Lake Bible Camp Polar Dip this afternoon. This is the 9th annual dip on New Year’s Day, a fundraiser for the camp. Each person making the plunge either paid $20 dollars or raised at least $20 dollars in pledges.
What was different this year, was the site of the “dip”. With ice conditions considered too dangerous for the deeper dip a little further off shore, the participants had to enter from the shoreline and wade to a deeper part to get completely wet.
Rod Unger, maintenance man for the Ness Lake Bible Camp says the lake was not completely frozen over, with plenty of holes, some slush, and some sections where the ice was less than an inch thick. Fore safety sake, spectators were not allowed on to the ice unless they were wearing a life jacket.
Unger says the hole for the event was cut by 11 this morning, but by 2:00, there was a skim of ice over top and he spent more than an hour removing that slick.
With the air temperature about minus 11, and the water temp at just plus 4, it was a chilly wait for those who would make the plunge.
Here are some of the images from this afternoon’s event.
