Prince George, B.C.-   The proposal for a  special levy for downtown businesses will be back  before  Prince George City Council this evening   A  bylaw will be presented and council will be asked to  give it  the first three readings.    Under the bylaw, downtown property owners would be required to pay an extra $1.65 per thousand dollars of assessment. If   the amount is over $10 thousand, any amount over and above the $10 thousand mark would be distributed among all property owners in the downtown core.

Also on the agenda for this evening’s first meeting of Council for the New Year, the Mayor will deliver a “State of the City” address.

Initiatives Prince George will request that it be allowed to pay interest only on the mortgage for the   former ACS building on Second Avenue until the building sells in July.   The full amount of the mortgage would be paid out when Terasen Gas buys the building in July.

Residents of Highland Drive will hear details of City staff’s review of their concerns over speeding and reduced visibilities.  Staff  say the RCMP will increase speed watch programs on the street, and   efforts will be made to improve the view of  intersections  by reducing the snow piles in winter and prune  trees in summer.

The World Baseball Challenge organizing committee will   make a presentation to Council looking for support for the return of the event in 2011.  The request gives Council two budget cycles to prepare for requests to upgrade Rotary   Field, provide temporary seating, lighting changes and move the fences back.

What a great New year's message for City Council to send. Lets start the New year by raising taxes.

When will they ever learn?
Item #1, oops we are over on our snow removal budget already!
"Staff say the RCMP will increase speed watch programs on the street,..."

There have not been any.

Habitual speeders are not going to change their addiction to push the pedal to the metal.

Especially if they get only warnings instead of very stiff fines.

Great, at least some governments are still at work. Perhaps they can pick up the slack for the federal guys.
Disband IPG. As for the baseball challenge, I enjoyed it, but it was not very profitable as attendence was quite low.
"Initiatives Prince George will request that it be allowed to pay interest only on the mortgage for the former ACS building on Second Avenue until the building sells in July."

Forgive my confusion, but this doesn't make sense. Doesn't the City fund IPG? And IPG owns the former ACS building? Maybe someone can clear it up.
