"S"  marks the start of the Olympic  Torch Relay in Prince  George while "C" marks  the  end of the road where the torch will light the Olympic Cauldron and start the Community Celebration.

Prince George, B.C.- The route for the Olympic Torch relay in Prince George on January 29th and the morning  of the 30th, has been revealed.

The torch relay is expected to begin just after 5:00 pm on January 29 at Van Bien School  at 5:09 p.m.  and will twist its  way through Prince George while enroute to the Community Celebration planned at Exhibition Park.

The torch will be carried through many Prince George streets including Westwood, Massey, Dominion, 3rd Avenue, Victoria, 7th Avenue, through Civic Centre Plaza, Winnipeg, Edmonton, 15th Avenue and Ospika.

Prince George Torch Celebrations Task Force Co-Chair Dave Wilbur expects many people will be lined up along the route to catch a glimpse of the flame. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the Olympic Flame come to Prince George, through our neighborhoods to unite our community in a celebration of the Olympic Spirit,” says Wilbur.

Wilbur encourages people to refrain from parking along the route during the time of the relay. “We want to make sure our torchbearers are safe and provide ample viewing opportunity for the public to see the flame, so during that time we will be asking people to refrain from parking along the route,” says Wilbur.

Prince George Torch Celebrations Task Force Co-Chair Shari Green says in order to ease the parking issue, bus service will be free on January 29, and buses will be running to and from Exhibition Park for  the Community Celebration. “We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone in the community to celebrate the Olympic Torch Relay. This will be a historic day for Prince George,” says Green.

The Olympic Torch Relay Celebration is scheduled from 6-8 pm on January 29 in the parking lot at  Exhibition Park. The free family event features exciting entertainment sponsored by RBC and Coca Cola, national sponsors of the Olympic Torch Relay and great performances by local entertainers. It will be capped off with one of the most impressive fireworks show ever seen in Prince George.

The highlight of  the Celebration be cheering local National Junior Alpine Ski Team member Alix Wells, as she brings the Olympic Flame onto the stage and lights the cauldron.

I cant say that I am opposed to an olympic event but I make no secret of the fact that I am NOT in favour of the olympics at this time of economic downturns. I firmly believe the Olympics should be self supporting much like any other sports organization. The money used for this local mini olympic party could be better spent. Todays news shows the olympics are taking precedent over education potentialy creating major unemployment for our cities teachers. Supporting anything olympic related is extremely tough for me when faced with that prospect. I realize this is city money rather than provincial money but it still hits home the negative aspects of the olympics financial burden on the provinces tax payers when our children cant count on a good education.
"our children cant count on a good education."

Actually I think it would be more appropriate if would say "our children cant count on a better education."

Why do I say that? Because based on international examinations, BC has the best education in Canada, and Canada is with the leaders in having the best education in the world, at least by common examinable international standards.

I know we can always strive higher in everythng we do. International sports would be one of those; as is cultural development.
The flame is symbolic of BC taxpayers money going up in smoke.
I wonder if the heat from the torch is going to impact the climate.

At least the torch fuelled our economy for the past six years. WTG Gordo
This person will be attending the festivities. It is an historic event and one I hope to remember for years to come!

We can leave our politics aside for one evening and share a little joy for once, yes?
"We can leave our politics aside for one evening and share a little joy for once, yes?" NO, not going. Not a chance. The politicians have no business spending money for events like this when we can't afford to eductate our kids.
Imorge and mythoughts said it best.
Dont worry commoner,YOU will be remembering it for years to come!
Do not attend then. The way I look at is, the money (OUR MONEY) has been spent. We may as well enjoy it. Your absence from the relay event will not affect the outcome one iota.

"The politicians have no business spending money for events like this when we can't afford to eductate our kids."

The kids are being educated. The education funding in this province is a separate issue. The olympics would happen irregardless of the budgets for other programs. The education budget has been an ongoing issue long before we applied for the games.

As someone else posted a while back, the games are happening whether you agree or not. Griping or protesting is not productive. If one takes issue with a government budget, the only way to effect change is to contact your MLA.

Not attending the relay event may make you feel better; protesting may allieviate your outrage; but, it will fall on deaf ears because the pieces on the board are already in play.
Maybe not commoner...this just came out on the wire. It's already started. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100120/business/intrawest
This is the biggest financial screw up this government has ever made.
BTW...it's not the athletes and the competition that most of us are against. It's the frivolous things like this torch run, all the free nightly entertainment in Vancouver, the massive amounts of money spent to build all the venues, housing, etc, etc. Many people became homeless in Vancouver because of greedy landlords who booted out their tenants to renovate and reopen for the Olympics to make a killing on inflated rent. It's just goes on & on. And then we hear this week that the school district is over budgeted and has to close possibly 14 schools. The Olympics will go ahead now no matter what but why did it have to cost us so much? It could have been done without the fluff and wasted money.

Meh...so it will change hands. The government does not own this property. It will nonetheless be interesting to see how VANOC deals with this "new" development.

I recognize this. I choose to sit on my own views for this particular thread. :-)
